[...] After many days of procrastination, I finally got down to doing a revamp of the blog aggregator that we run at bloggers.pk. Barely two months back in early December I quit on the ever faithful wordpress CMS system simply because it was not designed to be an efficient aggregator. I moved away from Wordpress and into PlanetPlanet the perfect system to run a blog aggregator. The only problem with it is that you need a little time and effort to configure and bring it into a full jog, especially for a person like myself it meant to learn and dabble in the coding language HTML::Template. Bloggers Pakistan was basically an effort to provide one concise place to display updated posts appearing in the Pakistani blogosphere it was also a great tool to monitor all blogspot.com hosted sites as with the Blogspot ban it was cumbersome to visit a blog and discover its not been updated. All said it might have even projected some good bloggers to be exposed to a wider variety of people surfing the blogosphere. [...]

hey guys. good to see wordpress being replaced! :)

the design..*winces*. i don't like it. okay as far as the first impression goes, it throws off an almost '97 look - i'd say unprofessional rather than simple, because simple can be much better.

Firstly, the edges of the bp tag aren't smooth. Secondly there is really no need to have "bloggers.pakistan" hanging in there like that. While i embrace white space for breathing, you could have alternatively utilised basic shape psychology to add gravity to the it. oh, and the colour doesn't add up with the rest of the colour schemw.

As far as the main content body goes, there are three basic mistakes. For starters, the width of the text is too wide. It's not easy reading on a browser, and especially not when your scrolling down and scanning. That's what led to the adoption of the narrower width paragraphs in blogs all over. The vertical alignment of the text is too evenly placed, leading to the the induvidual blog title, the post title and the excrept not flowing together as a group. Lastly, the links aren't obvious - neither the title posts, and especially nor the "read post @" ones. The latter isn't even clearly noticeable in its induvidual part. ( im not talking about squinting, or having to look and notice, of course.)

The side coloumn has gone all wrong. There is no reason for it to start of green, and dissappear into whiteness as soon as the contents done with. There is absolutely no reason for the content to be stacked on top of each other like that with no reason except 1) we had to put that bit in 2) it was the only place left to put it in 3) besides we couldnt have it all empty on the right now could we? . Not that I'm deriding the content itself, its just that your visual economy is near dead like this.

Besides which the border doesnt reach the top of the page and the paragraphs touch the border! Even the rss icon's corners look evil.

and thats my two bits for the second time - all brought to you by able caffiene and fable cola. hope you take some'f that and work on it :)

Looks good. This new setup should cause you much less trouble.

Right now I notice a lot of blogs (including mine) saying "no activity in 120 days". That seems anomalous. So do look into that. Once that feature is working, I would suggest that once a month you do a cleanup and remove inactive blogs.

Another issue is that when new blogs are added, all their posts appear at the top the first time the blog is checked, though they do go to their proper place the next time. Also check <a href="http://intertwingly.net/code/venus/docs/normalization.html" rel="nofollow">future dates</a>.

About registration form, I use a formmail script and then add manually. I can give you what I am using until you find a more automated solution.

I was actually working on that issue and have sorted it out, the template was attempting to display the authors name but it appears that blogspot published author name with their registered URL in all their feeds.

I have just fixed that issue, hope it is now better
